Idaho Board of Pharmacy | CE Requirements

Pharmacists licenses are renewed annually in the state of Idaho with a $130 renewal fee. All licenses in the state of Idaho can be renewed online via the renewal portal here. There is a $50 late fee added to all late renewals. Renewal periods open ten weeks prior to the license/registration expiration date. 
  • Pharmacists must complete 15 CE hours each calendar year between January 1 and December 31
  • CE hours must be reported & documented in CPE Monitor in order to be accepted 
  • There is currently no requirement for live CE

At least twelve (12) of the CPE hours obtained must be from programs by an ACPE that have a participant designation of “P” (for pharmacist) as the suffix of the ACPE universal program number. ACPE credits must be reported to and documented in CPE Monitor in order to be accepted.

A max of 3 of the hours may be obtained from CME, if the credits are: 

  1. Obtained from an ACCME accredited provider; and
  2. A certificate is furnished that identifies the name of the ACCME accredited provider and a clear reference to its accreditation status, the title of the CME program, the completed hours of instruction, the date of completion, and the name of the individual obtaining the credit. All CME certificates must be submitted to the Board between December 1 and December 31. 

 

Alternative to CPE: if audited, a pharmacist may substitute a current certification by a nationally accredited pharmacy practice-specific specialty certification program.

  1. PHARMACIST LICENSE: CPE REQUIREMENTS.

A certificate is furnished that identifies the name of the ACCME accredited provider and a clear reference to its accreditation status, the title of the CME program, the completed hours of instruction, the date of completion, and the name of the individual obtaining the credit. Upon audit, all CME certificates must be submitted to the Board.

03. Alternative to CPE. If audited, a pharmacist may substitute a current certification by a nationally accredited pharmacy practice-specific specialty certification program.

Applicants must complete the NABP License Transfer e-LTP Application which can be found using this link. Applicants must also take and pass the Idaho state MPJE. The Idaho Board of Pharmacy charges a fee of $279.25 for licensure transfer.  

Each pharmacist must complete fifteen (15) CPE hours each calendar year between January 1 and December 31.

Graduates of a College of Pharmacy that have obtained 1,500 extern hours must first apply for and pass the NAPLEX exam through NABP. Additionally, applicants must have fingerprints documented and complete a certificate of graduation form filled out by their school. Please note, this form must be sealed by the school and unopened prior to the Board receiving it. Pharmacists must be registered with the Idaho Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. Registration can be completed here. New applicants must enter “pending” when prompted for your Idaho license/registration number. Upon passing of the NAPLEX, the Idaho Board of Pharmacy will receive your results in 3 to 4 business days. It is important to note, the Idaho Board of Pharmacy asks that applicants please do not call for results. The board will notify you when your license is ready. Lastly, the applicant must sit for and pass the Idaho MPJE. Registration for this exam can also be done through the NABP. The application fee for a new pharmacist license is $140.

CE that a pharmacist in Idaho obtains can be many different formats such as lecture, classes, or correspondence courses that the licensee obtains live or by pre-recording. All 15 hours of CE may be completed via correspondence courses from home.

Idaho CE Requirements For Pharmacy Technicians

    • Certified Pharmacy Tech Registrations also have a $35 renewal fee 
  • Renewal notices will only be sent via email

Currently, pharmacy technicians are not required to obtain CE hours in the state of Idaho.

To register as a pharmacy technician in the state of Idaho, you must be at least 16 years of age. Guardian/parental consent is required by code for applicants under the age of 18 by filling out the consent form which can be found here. Applicants must also provide fingerprints with their application. There is a $35 application fee to register as a pharmacy technician in the state of Idaho. Certified pharmacy technicians must have obtained and maintained their certified pharmacy technician status through PTCB or ExCPT.
