    Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is estimated to affect approximately 10% of the population in the United States. This means that roughly 2 million people are affected by CKD. Numerous complications can develop in these patients, including secondary hyperparathyroidism. Secondary hyperparathyroidism can have a profound effect on the bones and is an important complication to treat in this patient population.
