Everything You Need to Know about the 2024 Florida Pharmacy Technician CE Deadline

Birds perched on a Florida waterway sign with "Manatee Area" warning, situated on a calm sea with a distant shoreline.

Here’s the bad news: Florida’s continuing education (CE) deadline for pharmacy technicians is coming up soon at the end of this year. But here’s the good news: freeCE has you covered. From live CE to niche topics, here’s everything you need to know about what Florida requires of pharmacy techs.

When Is the 2024 CE Deadline?

The Florida Board of Pharmacy requires all pharmacy technicians to complete a specific number of CE credit hours to maintain their licensure. For the 2022-2024 renewal cycle, pharmacy technicians must fulfill their CE requirements by December 31, 2024. This deadline ensures that all professionals remain current with the latest practices and regulations in pharmacy care.

Florida CE Requirements for Pharmacy Technicians

How many CE hours you need in Florida depends on whether you have renewed your license before.

BIENNIAL CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

In Florida, Pharmacy Technicians must complete 20 hours of ongoing education every two years to qualify for license renewal. Out of these, you should schedule 4 hours for live sessions and dedicate 2 hours to medication error topics.

Required Subject Area Required Number of Hours*
General Hours 18
Medication Errors 2

*4 of the 20 required hours must be live

CE REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR FIRST BIENNIUM RENEWAL

There are particular continuing education prerequisites for your inaugural biennial renewal. If you are renewing your license for the first time, you are only required to complete 12 or 3 continuing education credits, depending on the time between your initial licensure date and your first renewal.

If your first biennium license renewal occurs 12 months or more after your initial licensure date, you are required to complete 12 continuing education units. The 12 hours must include 9 general hours (2 of which must be live contact hours), 2 hours of medication errors, and 1 hour in HIV/AIDS.

Required Subject Area Required Number of Hours
General Hours 9, 2 of which must be live
Medication Errors 2
HIV/AIDS 1

If your first two-year license renewal falls under 12 months from your original licensing date, you are required to finish 2 hours of medication errors, and 1 hour in HIV/AIDS.

Medication Errors 2
HIV/AIDS 1

Why Timely CE Completion Matters

Completing your CE requirements on time is not just about compliance; it’s also about professional growth and patient safety. Here’s why meeting the deadline is crucial:

  • Maintaining Licensure: Failing to complete your CE requirements by the deadline can result in license suspension or non-renewal.
  • Staying Updated: Regular CE helps you stay informed about the latest developments in pharmacy practice, enhancing your skills and knowledge.
  • Improving Patient Care: Up-to-date training ensures that you provide the best possible care and make informed decisions in your practice.
