Maintaining compliance with federal controlled substances laws and regulations is paramount for pharmacists. These laws exist to protect the public by preventing misuse, abuse, and diversion of controlled substances. Additionally, the penalties for noncompliance can be drastic for pharmacists. The Drug Enforcement Administration has recently issued several proposed and final regulations which will have several implications for pharmacy practice. Additionally, the Department of Health and Human Services updated eligibility requirements to prescribe buprenorphine products for Opioid Use Disorder. This knowledge-based program will provide updates on the federal regulation of controlled substances for the practicing pharmacist.
