This activity will engage pharmacy technicians who may not be familiar with caring for older adult patients. It will discuss the changes that happen to the body as we age, as well as how those changes affect therapy. It will also address the potential barriers to care that older adults face as they age; from social barriers like ageism, to physical barriers like reduced vision and dexterity, to financial barriers to care, such as navigating open enrollment periods. It will also introduce pharmacy technicians to compliance tools that are commonly used for older adults, as well as guidelines that are geared specifically toward treating older adult patients.
