For patients with diabetes, episodes of hypoglycemia can be a frightening and frustrating piece of managing adequate glucose control. As many as 25% of patients with diabetes have reported having frequent episodes of hypoglycemia. Many factors are involved in minimizing the number of hypoglycemic episodes, including diet and proper management of medications. In this session, the leading causes of hypoglycemia are examined and analyzed from a patient management perspective. This session seeks to provide the healthcare provider with tools necessary to properly coach patients who experience this preventable phenomenon.

A sexually transmitted infection (STI) is an infection acquired through sexual contact which could develop into a disease. In 2021, the CDC provided an update on the treatment of STIs as well as a focus on preventative strategies. Healthcare providers have an important role in raising awareness of STIs, counseling on the recommended treatments for both patient and partner and educating on risk factors and prevention. This course will review the most common STIs and their management, based on clinical guidelines and the role of the healthcare provider.

We are trained to ask our patients what medication allergies they have, but do we ask what other allergies they may have? There are nine major food allergens, many of which can appear in medications as inactive ingredients. These allergens can have detrimental effects on patients who are allergic to these items, so it is important for us as healthcare practitioners to be able to identify when allergens are present and to recommend alternative medications as appropriate.

Event Details
The identification and reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) is essential to ensure safe and effective medication use. Despite ongoing pharmacologic advances, healthcare professionals continue to be hindered by barriers that include a lack of true consensus on both the definition and the value of reporting ADRs. This program is intended to identify the barriers of ADR reporting and to support the development of a consensus and recognized shared value of reporting these events to the entire medication safety community.
