A licensed pharmacist is someone who has met the requirements for licensure set by the state in which they practice. Each state has their own set of qualifications, but they will each almost certainly require that licensees have completed a pharmacy doctorate program and passed the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE).

Continuing education is an important part of the pharmacy profession. Pharmacy continuing education keeps pharmacists up-to-date on industry standards and ensures a higher quality of patient care.
Pharmacists are required to complete a certain number of live and/or on-demand CE hours to maintain their licenses and the right to practice. Each state sets their own requirement for the number of hours, type of CE, and specific topics.
For example, pharmacists in Florida are required to complete the following during each biennial renewal cycle: 26 hours of CE on any topic (two of which must be live), 2 hours on controlled substances, and 2 hours on medication errors.
It can be difficult to keep track of what each state requires of its pharmacy licensees. Because freeCE cares about keeping its members informed and up-to-date with their CE, we created a State Board of Pharmacy Information Map. There, you can find out what your state requires during its renewal process and what CE you need.
Online CE allows you to satisfy your CE requirements from the comfort of your own home or anywhere you want. Gone are the days where classrooms and ballrooms were your only options. freeCE offers continuing education activities in two online formats: live or on-demand.
freeCE offers multiple live programs a day, so members can complete their requirements quickly and conveniently. Our robust calendar of live events means you’re bound to find a time that works for you and a topic that is genuinely interesting.
Live continuing pharmacy education is a great option for those who prefer to interact with a faculty member when they’re completing an activity. Live CE allows you to ask questions and provide feedback, which wouldn’t be possible in an on-demand program.
Plus, some people prefer to have a set meeting time for accountability. On-demand programs are fully self-paced and autonomous, which may not be for everyone.
Online webinars do count as live CE. Traditionally, pharmacists would earn live CE credits through in-person seminars or meetings. However, pharmacists can also choose to earn these credit hours with online webinars.
Online live CE fulfills all the requirements of in-person activities, including interactive Q&A sessions with the faculty, all while being fully digital.
If you struggle to fit in-person live CE into your busy schedule, live webinars may be an excellent option for you. Webinars come in different lengths and formats and cover a variety of topics, from general drug therapy activities to medication errors and controlled substances.
On-demand continuing education is a convenient way to complete CE hours. freeCE makes courses accessible from your phone, tablet, or computer, so you can earn your CE from anywhere at any time.
Have 20 minutes on the train? Waiting at the doctor’s office? Now, you can use that time to check continuing education off your list. We’re all about designing pharmacist CE that fits into your busy schedule.
We’re also all about offering a wide variety of topics. We have more options than any other company so we can satisfy all our learners’ requirements and offer activities that actually interest them.
Our robust catalog of on-demand CE is the perfect place to find high-quality CE on emerging hot topics from the industry’s top subject matter experts.
All freeCE courses are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). This means that when you earn CE with freeCE, you’re getting training that will satisfy your state CE requirements and is respected in the pharmaceutical industry.
In the pharmacy industry, “contact hours” are the same thing as “CE.” Continuing education (CE) goes by many names, including continuing education units (CEU) and continuing pharmacy education (CPE). Contant hours are referring to the same thing—the hours of training or education required by a licensing or certifying body. For the specific language your state uses, visit your state’s board of pharmacy website.
A career as a pharmacist requires continuous learning. While you don’t have a choice when it comes to whether to earn CPE credits, you do have a choice when it comes to the provider you turn to.
