Cardiometabolic disease, which includes diabetes, obesity and coronary artery disease, kills well over 1 million people in our country each year. 50 million Americans are estimated to have frequent heartburn, defined as symptoms occuring at least 2 days/week. Many of these sufferers experience nighttime symptoms, which are often associated with a higher rate of complications. Many heartburn sufferers see the advice of their pharmacist on how they should best relieve their symptoms, and may express concerns over the safety issues that may arise with their OTC medication. Frequent heartburn can be treated effectively over the 24 hour dosing interval with a once daily PPI given OTC. This knowledge based webinar aims to provide pointers on who is at risk of frequent heartburn, how to recognize symptoms and alarm symptoms, how to decide who is appropriate for OTC PPI treatment, and who should be recommended to see their physician, as well as discussing safety concerns.
